It’s taken a while, but the new Unicorn Studios studio is finally good to go! We’re offering lots of craft courses and opportunities to make or buy some fab items.
After 15 years at the old studio in Lincoln, Unicorn has moved to an amazing new space at Harworth near Bawtry. It’s only about 10 minutes from the Blyth services on the A1M, so is really easy to get to.
It’s been a tough few months – I signed the new lease 3 days before the coronavirus lockdown! 🙄 Story of my life!! – but at least it’s given me time to sort most of the stuff out that I brought with me. The old room was about half the size of the new one, but its amazing how much I managed to get in it!
The craft courses offered are wide-ranging… from stained, fused and painted glass, through traditional bookbinding and all the way to traditional upholstery and an occasional china restoration course (I’m a qualified conservator/restorer with 15 years’ experience.)
Some of the craft courses are purely for the fun of doing the crafting and spending some time with like-minded people, but lots of them can be profitable as well. If you let it slip that you can do proper upholstery, for example, you’ll be amazed how much work you can get! Obviously, it takes more than a course to be proficient in most things but, with a bit of practice, all these skills can be very useful.
I never abandon my students either. If you get stuck on a project at home, I’m just at the end of the phone or email and we can work through your problem together.
Booking is very easy and totally secure. There’s a booking section at the bottom of each course page. Accommodation is easy too if you’re not local, as there are hotels and guest houses only minutes away.
To comply with current regulations, I’m limiting classes to 3 students if they’re strangers to each other, but will accept my normal number of up to 6 students from the same family. Either way, the studio is plenty big enough for sensible distancing and sanitising measures are in place.
As you’ll see if you browse through this website, there are things to buy as well as things to do. I, or my business partner Darren, make everything shown – he does the Moondragon wood art (page coming soon!) and I do everything else.
Most things can be bought online and posted – UK shipping is included in the prices –Â or can be paid for online and collected from the studio, again with appropriate distancing measures abided by.
It’s been an exciting, exhausting and rather odd three months, but I’m really looking forward to having students again – I get as much fun out of the courses as they do!!
Do feel free to ask questions via the comments below or the Contact page, and I hope you come to visit the sparkly-new studio soon!
